Why Efficient Leaders Never Stop Learning

What do efficient leaders gain by never stopping their learning?

  1. Their intuition continually improves
  2. They are challenged to grow more
  3. They lead people better

Whether through seminars or through leadership training in the Philippines, people are appointed to be leaders because they are expected to help their team members in learning what they need to do to become efficient at their jobs.

But, what if the leader himself does not like learning new things that could be potentially helpful to his position. They may act like this because of several or personal reasons like arrogance or sheer laziness, but at the end of the day, they becoming nothing more than burdens to a company or organization.

They don’t grow their leadership skills and eventually become inefficient. Because of this, the problems they need to address become harder to solve and managers may start to think they need to step down or do not fit the job. Therefore, these are the reasons why efficient leaders should never stop learning:

Their intuition continually improves

Their intuition continually improves

Intuition is that nagging feeling your head that came out of the blue or came because of certain experiences. This characteristic has two types:

  • Expert intuition – this is based on experiences with certain pattern
  • Creative intuition – you totally think of something new with no reason

Leaders need both types of intuition because there are times when pure logic cannot help you make a decision. For example, an HR head has become an expert on reading human behavior after interviewing so many people. She knows who does not fit the job because of the aura the applicant gives off. The credentials in the person’s CV does not matter in her final decision.

Additionally, a lot of popular business trends came into existence because someone decided to follow their heart and implement what they thought was right. Henry Ford was faced with low sales and high employee turnover. He assumed that higher wages would make them stay and make them rich enough to buy his cars. The rest of the industry thought he was crazy, but this intuitive decision worked. Turnover decreased and sales increased in 1914.

A leader needs to have a highly tuned intuition because this person will always be expected to make the hard decisions. He or she will be the person everyone runs to for answers in times where there seems to be no way out.

Leadership training can help you to be more intuitive by giving you challenges with little to no instruction. They tell you to achieve something and it is up to you to decide how you will gain. The more you do these challenges, the more you will realize how helpful your actual instincts are.

They are challenged to grow more

Being good at something means learning new concepts that are challenging. This is why so many people want to stop being students because it takes too much. While they get less stressed, they also lose opportunities to grow in their talents, skills, and attitude.

If you want to be a leader, you cannot be someone who easily backs down from challenging work. The reason you need challenges is simple. You are not always right. There is always a talent you are lacking, and lacking it may give you problems later on.

For example, a lot of inefficient leaders feel dread when delivering a presentation to a lot of strangers or even just talking to their whole team because they are simply terrible at it. Most of them never tried practicing giving good speeches or attending public speaking seminars in the Philippines to get better.

They assumed that doing output well was enough. Unfortunately, most of them are expected by executives to discuss quarterly the performance and whenever the time comes. These people can choose to do their presentation half-heartedly since they have always been bad at public speaking. Or, they can choose not to be intimated by the challenge and work hard until they become great at speaking.

Afterward, it will become easy for them to speak to anyone and they will be highly respected as a leader for the skill he or she gained.

They lead people better

They lead people better

A lot of leaders tend to realize that after constantly talking with their team members, they don’t actually know how to lead them. When you lead people, you are expected to know how to make them work better alone and together. Additionally, you have to make sure they are able to follow the company or organizational goals.

A good example of non-leaders who know how to lead people are public speakers. The goal of their talks is to give tips on increasing the effectiveness of those listening to them. In a way, they are guiding them just like you do at your job.

When you go to a public speaking seminar in the Philippines, the speakers always seem to know the right things to say and how to make the people engaged.  At the end of the day, the audience walks away feeling they have improved. It is because they attempt asking them what they feel and want. You can do the same by regularly asking for their feedback about work as a whole.

Key Takeaway

If leaders want to be efficient at their position, they should continue to be open to learning new things. The skills that help them before may not be enough for the problems that will come later on. Leaders need to improve their intuition because they make the hard decision. Additionally, lessons from challenges help them grow. Lastly, they learn how to lead people better.

Lead people with a dedication like no other. Transform lives. Reach your maximum potential.
